Gongju | #Mt. Yeonmi Nature Art Park. 공주 | #연미산자연미술공원

 

 

외국인 커뮤니티에는 생각지도 못한 지역이나 장소가 소개된 경우가 있다. 나 역시 중국과 미국에서 살았을 때는 누구보다 열심히 가볼만한 곳을 검색하고 돌아다녔는데 한국에서는 방만한 마음인지 그게 잘 안된다. 이번에 소개할 연미산 자연미술공원은 도대체 어떻게 찾은 건지 궁금한 마음이 절로 들게도, 한 외국인 커뮤니티에서 알게 된 곳이었다.

 

남은 칠면조와 크랜베리 소스, 스터핑을 넣은 도시락을 만든 후 연미산 자연미술공원이 있는 공주로 향했다.

 

연미산 자연미술공원 입구 맞은편에는 무료 주차장이 있으니 주차는 고민하지 않아도 된다. (이 자연미술공원은 공주 연미산 고개에 위치해 있어 자동차로만 갈 수 있을 것 같았는데 찾아보니 근처 버스정류장에서 내려 십여분 정도 걸어서 가는 방법도 있다.)

 

 

 

At times, foreign communities introduce unfamiliar places in Korea, even to Koreans. Mt. Yeonmi Nature Art Park is one of thoses places. 

 

We drove to Gongju, packing our lunchbox with leftovers of Thanksgiving food.

 

There is a free parking lot right in front of the park enterance. (Mt. Yeonmi Nature Art Park is located in the middle of the hill of Mt. Yeonmi, Gongju. I thought we could only go to Mt. Yeonmi Nature Art Park by driving, but there was also a bus station close by!) 

 

 

 

 

 

 

입구 근처의 조각상이 연미산 자연미술공원에 대한 기대감을 자아낸다. 

입장료는 성인은 5,000원, 청소년 및 어린이는 3,000원이다. 

 

Outside of the enterance there were a few statues that raised our expectations for the Mt. Yeonmi Nature Art Park.

Enterance fee is 5,000 won for adults and  3,000 won for teenagers/kids above 3 year old.

 

 

 

 

 

 

입구를 지나니 산이 펼쳐졌다. 산 곳곳에 미술 작품이 설치되어 있었고, 무료로 나눠주는 안내도와 명확하지 않은 이정표를 따라 작품을 감상하면 된다. 산이라 그런지 미리 검색해간 기온보다 더 춥게 느껴졌다.

 

걷다 보면 곧 곰을 주제로 한 작품이 나온다. 이 거대한 곰 조각이 나타나기 전에도 몇 개의 자잘한 미술작품이 있었지만 눈에 띄는 건 역시 크기로 압도한 조각상이다. 크기가 얼마나 큰지, 곰 조각상 내부에는 조각상 위로 올라갈 수 있는 계단도 있다. 계단을 타고 위로 올라가면 곰의 가슴에서 한번, 눈에서 한번 밖을 내다볼 수 있다. 물론 밖에서 보면 사람은 콩알만 하게 보인다.

 

 

 

If you can imagine, the Nature Art Park is in outdoors on the mountain. Be sure to plan for colder temperature than what weather forcast says.  Put on warmer clothes.

 

When you follow the milestones, you will get to a place where a lot of works that are bear-themed. Of course, this giant bear is not the first piece of art you see in the park. However, it stands out because of the size. There are stairs inside of the statue. You can see outside inside of the statue both at chest and eye, but you look small like a bean.

After you see the spooky art…

 

 

 

 

 

 

…을 지나면 미야자키 하야오의 월령공주에서 사슴 신으로 나올 것 같은 조각상이 나온다.

You can also see a statue that is familiar in a particular animated film《The Princess Mononoke≫  such as the deer God.

여름에 왔으면 누구나 노릴 것 같은 이 자리는 겨울에 오니 그저 을씨년스럽다.

This art could've been a hit when you visited here during summer!

 

 

 

 

 

 

이해할 수 없는 조각상이 태반이지만 그럼에도 불구하고 큰 조각상들은 마음에 든다.

There were so many mysterious art pieces in this Park, but I really liked big statues like this.

튼실한 인간의 다리가 있는 둥지 속의 새. 이건 만든 저의가 정말 궁금해서 작품 소개를 읽어봤다.

I could not understand at all the bird with human legs in the nest! I had to read the introduction of the work.

 

 

인간은 일상에서 자신들은 동물과 별개라고 느끼며 살아간다. … 작품 '구애'는 인간의 원초적 본능으로 돌아가 수컷에게서 요구되는 것이 무엇인가 표현했다. 커다란 둥지 안에 쪼그리고 앉아 있는 수컷은 종족 번식을 위해 모든 것을 갖추고 있다고 자부하고 있다. 새끼들을 위한 둥지, 도망갈 수 있는 두 다리, 궁지에 몰렸을 때 공격할 수 있는 날카로운 부리, …. 그러나 그의 착각일 뿐. 깃털이 있어도 날개가 없고, 비대하게 큰 상체지만 섬세하게 어루만질 손과 팔이 없고, 감정을 표현할 눈과 얼굴이 없다. 그야말로 안쓰러운 존재다.

Human beings are obsessed to think that we are different from animal.  … My work 'Courship' expressed needs for males(not as a human but as an animal) to have. This male creation in the huge nest is confident to have everything for reproduction: Nest for young, sturdy legs to run, a pointed beak to attack, …. However, he doesn't have wings even though he has feathers, he doesn't have hands and arms even though he has an oversized upper body and he doesn't have eyes and a face to express his emotions. 

 

역시 내게 미술이란 귀에 걸면 귀걸이, 목에 걸면 목걸이 같ㅇㅏ…

To be honest, to me, modern art is 80% footnotes.

 

 

 

 

 

처마 끝 풍경처럼 맑은 소리를 냈다면 더 좋았을 것 같은 하트 모양의 작품.

현실은 둔탁한 음을 내서 얼른 자리를 벗어나고 싶었다.

 

Unlike its sweet shape, this wind-bell did not sound sweet.

 

 

 

 

 

 

의도된 것인지 '숲'이라는 글자와 함께 '숲'처럼 보이는 오두막이 나타난다.

신데렐라 마차라고 해도 타기를 거부할 것 같은 음침한 마차 ㅋㅋ

A dark carriage that I would've hesitated to ride even if it was for a Cinderella fairytale.

 

 

 

 

 

 

바람에 무섭게 흔들거리는, 한참을 고개 들어야 끝이 보이던 길고 얇은 나무.

이상한 나라의 엘리스에 온 듯한 이 말은 또 뭥미. 눈도 뿅 간 것 같은데?

곰 조각상이 많길래 왜인가 했더니, 공주의 지명이 고마나루에서 왔다고 한다. '고마'는 '곰', 나루는 나루터, 언덕을 뜻하는 '진(津)' 즉 공주의 옛 지명인 웅진이 고마나루라고 한다.

 

I was curisous why there were so many bear statues in this park, it later transpired, Gongju (the city where Mt. Yeonmi is) named after Woong Jin(웅진) which means Bear(熊, 웅 Woong) and Hill(津, 진 Jin)

마치며,

 

연미산 자연미술공원. 푸르른 여름이나 날이 풀리는 봄에 가면 더 좋았을 것 같은데 우리가 갔을 때는 절로 핫초코를 찾게 되는 추운 겨울이었다. 자연의 색에서 벗어나지 않기 위함인지 어두운 계열의 작품들이 을씨년스러운 날씨에 더해져 전체적으로 음침하다는 느낌이 들기도 한다.

 

곰을 주제로 했던 작품이 여기저기 설치되어 있어서 곰 조각상이 왜 이렇게 많지?라는 생각이 절로 들었는데 연미산 자연미술공원 막바지에 이르러서야 그 궁금증을 해결할 수 있었다. 이정표가 제대로 설치되어 있지 않아 어디를 가리키고 있는지 헷갈렸기 때문에 지도에 의지해서 걸어 다닌 터라 나의 궁금증이 더 늦게 해소된 것일지도 모른다. 만약 그런 거라면 이정표를 한번 점검해보는 것도 좋을 것 같다. 내가 순서대로 잘 돌아다닌 게 맞다면 여기저기 흩뿌려진 곰 조각상을 한 곳으로 모으고 웅진에 대한 설명을  일찍 알려주면 더 좋을 것 같다.

 

어쨌든 자연 속에서 색다른 재미를 느낄 수 있었고, 재미난 사진도 많이 찍었기 때문에 나름  즐거운 시간을 보냈다.

 

 

 

Mt. Yeonmi Nature Art Park.

I'd like to suggest this place for greenery summer or warmer spring. Josh and I were dying for hot chocolate! Also, dark colored arts added to a deary winter day drew a little bit of a somber mood.

Milestones in the park were not very clear where to go next. That might be why only near the end I could figure out why there were so many statues of bear in this nature art park. I wish the managers checked the milestones, or I wish I could see the explanation a little earlier.

 

Meanwhile, we could have unique time appreciating art works outside with a lot of fun photos!
