부산 Busan | 텍사스 거리? 러시아 거리?! 차이나 타운?!?!

 

 

 

부산역에서 나오면 길 건너 오른쪽에는 텍사스 거리 입구가, 왼쪽에는 차이나 타운 입구가 자리하고 있다.

느릿느릿 걸어도 2분도 채 걸리지 않는 짧은 거리이기 때문에 어느 쪽 입구로 들어가든 상관은 없지만 길을 건너기 위한 횡단보도가 텍사스 거리 입구에서 가까우니 우리는 텍사스 거리로 들어갔다.

: Is it Texas Street or China Town?

 

When you walk out of Busan Stations front exit/enterance, you will see two huge signs:

On the left China Town, on the right Texas Street.

It doesn't matter which gate you choose, you can come through to the other side of gate in 2 minutes.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

텍사스 거리

입구에 들어서자 제일 먼저 보이는 건 번쩍번쩍 빛나는 모텔 간판이었다.

분명 모텔 외에도 찍을 거리가 있을 거야!라고 마음을 다 잡고 둘러보니 허접한데 텍사스 느낌을 주려고 노력한 듯한 조각상들이 건물 곳곳에 있다.

 

 

 

TEXAS STREET

Once you enter through the Texas Street gate, motel signs welcome you.

I did not want to believe that I could not find anything related to 'Texas' in 'Texas Street', so I took a look around.

I found a few cheap, tiny Texas human statues in places!

- 너무 자연스러워서 아무 괴리감 없이 조각상을 봤는데, 누군가가 남자 조각상 손에 담뱃갑을 올려놓았다. 담뱃갑 없는 조각상의 애매한 포즈가 도대체 뭘 의미하는 것일까 도저히 상상할 수가 없다. Somebody put a pack of cigarettes in the male statue's hand. It is really hard for me to imagine what the male statue is doing without the pack in his hand. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

텍사스 거리 곳곳 러시아어가 보인다.

가뜩이나 길도 짧은데 거리에는 옷이나 가방 등을 파는 상점이나 환전소, 주점만 있고 크게 볼거리는 없다.

도대체 여기가 '왜 텍사스 거리지?' 라는 의문을 해결할 만한 어떤 단서도 찾지 못한 채 바로 차이나 타운이 나온다.

 

 

 

There are Russian signs all over the street.

Stores for clothes or bags, currency exchanges and bars are all of places you can see in Texas street.

When you start to think 'why this place is named Texas Street?',  China Town appears.

 

 

 

- 황소상과 러시아 상점 ㅋㅋ

 

- 텍사스 스트릿의 끝이자 차이나타운의 시작. 텍사스 스트릿은 도보 1분도 채 되지 않는 짧은 거리다. The end of Texas Street and further gate is the start of China town. Texas Street is 1~2 minutes long distance.

 

 

 

 

 

 

차이나 타운  CHINA TOWN

차이나 타운은 붉은 홍등 때문에 누가봐도 차이나 타운이다.

영화 올드보이를 촬영했다고 서로 주장하는 중화요리 전문점 두 곳도 있다.

You can find two restaurans with references from the hit action mystery movie, Old Boy  which was filmed in their restaurants.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

차이나 타운으로 들어갔다고 해서 중국 식당만 있는 건 아니다. 중국 마사지샵, 환전소뿐만 아니라 러시아 식당과 러시아 디저트 가게도 있다. 이즈음 되니 슬슬 '왜 러시아?'라는 의문이 머릿속을 맴돈다.

 

Not only are there Chinese restuarants, massage shops, and currency exchanges but there are also Russian restaurants and desert stores too.  I couldn't stop thinking 'Why Russia?' in my head.

텍사스 거리  TEXAS STREET

텍사스 거리와 차이나 타운이 위치한 초량동에는 1950년대 6˙25 전쟁에 참전한 미군과 선원을 위한 유흥업소가 생겼다.

이곳은 한동안 윤락업소를 뜻하는 텍사스촌이라고 불리며 청소년 통행 금지 구역이 되기도 했는데, 미군부대가 다른 지역으로 이전하면서 텍사스촌의 규모는 점점 축소되었다.

 

 

In 1950, brothels were made at Texas Street for U.S. soldiers who joined the Korean war.

For a long time the brothels area was called Texas Village, but after the Korean War,  U.S. military base moved to other places within Korea, and Texas Village downscaled.

 

 

 

러시아 거리  RUSSIA STREET

1991년 이후 한-러 수교 이후 부산항을 통해 러시아 교역상들이 들어오면서 자연스레 이곳에서의 러시아인 입지가 커졌지만 현재는 러시아 선박수가 많이 줄어 러시아인의 발길이 뜸해졌다.

 

 

Korea established diplomatic ties with Russia in 1991, a lot of  Russian vessels came into Korea through Busan Port, creating a Russian market. Currently the number of Russian vessels declined and less Russians come to Busan.  However there are a few stores and restaurants left in which Koreans find it unique to try Russian food.

 

 

 

차이나 타운  CHINA TOWN

차이나 타운의 역사는 텍사스촌이나 러시아 상점보다 오래되었다. 1884년 초량동에 청나라 영사관이 설치되면서 이곳에 자연스레 중국인들이 많이 거주하게 되었다. 그 이후로 이 거리는 오랜 기간 '청나라 영사관'을 뜻하는 '청관거리'로 불려 오다 2007년 차이나 타운으로 명칭을 바꿨다.

 

 

The history of China town is longer than Texas Village and Russian Markets. 

In 1884, Qing Consulate set up in this place, and many Chinese gradually built China town. This street has been called Qing Consulate Street for a long time, but the Korean government changed its name to China town in 2007.

 

 

 

여러 문화가 혼합된 이 거리가 텍사스 스트릿이 된 이유?  WHY TEXAS STREET?

텍사스 촌은 축소된 규모만큼 사람들의 기억속에서 잊혀지는 듯했지만 2017년, 부산 동구청이 13억 원을 들여 이 지역을 텍사스 촌을 떠올리게 하는 '텍사스 스트릿'으로 이름 지었다. 러시아 상점이 많으니 러시아 거리라고 부르거나 차이나 타운을 확장하는 방법도 있었을 텐데 텍사스 스트릿으로 이름을 지은 이유는 상가 업주들의 의견이었다고 한다.

 

13억이라는 말을 들으니 곳곳에 어물쩍 떨어져 있는 텍사스인 모형들이 더더욱 허접하게 다가온다.어쨌든 텍사스 스트릿, 차이나 타운, 곳곳의 러시아 상점들이 조금은 난잡하고 혼란스럽긴 하지만 그래도 부산역에 올 일이 있다면 한 번쯤 들러봐도 좋을 것 같다.

 

 

Texas Villiage had faded into history ever since U.S. Bases moved from Busan.

In 2017, however, a Borough (small district) office built up Texas Street with better designs at a cost of 13 billion won (about 110 thousand dollars).

Ever controversial, the street name reminds Koreans of the brothels history, but still stands to this day a reminder of the past.

 

Comepare to the amount of invested, the statues are not very detailed but are still entertaining to behold.

Even though this street is short, not a lot of spots to see and the name confusing you, but still it is recommended to take a short walk through Texas Street and China town when you come to Busan station.
